- Description: Evergreen climber shrub. cladode glabrous, dark green, ovate-lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, acuminate, leathery, at the axils of the leaves which are reduced to unconspicuous scales. Yellowish small flowers in fascicule on the surface or on the margin of the cladode. Fruit globose about 1 cm across.
- Culture: Online information indicates this species grows native in wet, peaty soils in semi-shade. Our tests show best growth in well-drained cactus mix, allowing to dry between watering with regular fertility.
Soil tests (Aug '05 - March '07):
Cactus Mix - best - good vegetative growth, good root system
Peat-Lite - marginal - roots healthy, but not as well developed, limited top growth
Rich Sandy Loam - good root growth, intermediate top growth
Regular Soil - moderate root system, but not as healthy as CM/RSL - intermediate top growth.
