Dendrobium x delicatum
- Common Name:
- Family: Orchidaceae Juss.
- Country of Origin: eastern Australia
- Habitat: grow primarily on cliffs or rock faces in full sun
- Description: A natural hybrid of kingianum X D. tarberi. The first collection of Dendrobium x delicatum was at Spring Bluff near Toowoomba, Queensland in 1884.
This species is epiphytic, favouring littoral rainforest, subtropical rainforest, warm temperate rainforest, dry rainforest, wet sclerophyll forests, dry sclerophyll forests, and rocky crevices and scree.
- Culture: The plants grow primarily on rocks or cliff faces (as do both parents), and occasionally are exposed to full sun. Keep these orchids in an open, well draining mix. As they are strong growers, give them plenty of water and fertilizer during the growing season from spring into summer. Reduce watering during the fall, and withhold water during the winter to keep the plant from forming keikis at the expense of flowering. Lower temperatures considerably as these plants are exposed to night temperatures down to 40ºF during the winter in nature.
