Habitat: Waste places, rich soils
Uses: Deadly Nightshade contains tropane alkaloids such as atropine, scopolamine and hyoscyamine, which are extremely toxic but are used medicinally in small doses for their anticholinergic effects (blockage of the activity of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine). The plant was formerly used in folk medicine, cosmetics, as a poison, and in witches flying ointment.
