    Vine, stems strongly 4-ribbed to 4-winged, often nearly leafless; leaves simple, broadly cordate-ovate, sometimes 3-lobed, to 2 inches long; flowers greenish, in short cymes; fruit red.

    Tropical and southern Africa and much of tropical Asia

    The epithet is often misspelled quadrangularis
