Ecballium elaterium (L.) A.Rich.
- Common Name: Squirting Cucumber
- Family: Cucurbitaceae Juss.
- Country of Origin: Mediterranean and Macaronesia
- Habitat: Hot dry places on waste ground and roadsides
- Description: A trailing to slightly bushy perennial that has messy, exploding seed pods, it is more a gardeners practical joke than a major garden ornament. The trailing habit lends itself to ground cover or climbing up a low fence. Leaves are palmately lobed and bristly, and both male and female flowers appear on one plant. The flowers are funnel-shaped, about 1 inch across and are deep yellow. The hairy seed pods are blue-green
Culture as for its close relatives, cucumbers and pumpkins.
