  • Query IPNI
  • Common Name:
  • Family: Apocynaceae Juss.

  • Country of Origin: eastern South Africa
  • Habitat:

  • Description: This highly succulent species is native to eastern South Africa. It has grayish brown stems about 1/2 in (12 mm) thick, the leaves reduced to small scales, and is commonly creeping or trailing, but with maturity can send up slender twining stems to 5 ft (1.5 m) in height. In spring and summer it produces tubular flowers 1 1/2-2 in (3-5 cm) long, flaring at the top into a 5-pointed star and mostly off-white spotted dark purple.

The creeping stems can take root, leaving older parts behind to wither and die.
