    Shrub to 5 feet, branches roughened by many lenticels; leaves narrowly elliptic, to 2.4 inches long, sharply serrulate; flowers 1 to several, on short spurs, sepals broadly elliptic, yellow-green, becoming enlarged and oblong in age, strongly reflexed and bright red in fruit, petals obovate; drupes ellipsoid, becoming black when mature, on enlarged red receptacle. Perhaps not specifically distinct from Ochna atropurpurea.
