    This handsome, evergreen shrub bears dense, erect spikes of white, pink or rose purple flowers in summer to fall (autumn). It grows to a height of 5 ft (1.5 m) with a spread of 30 in (75 cm), and has pointed, veined, deep green leaves.

  • Culture: It is frost tender; potted specimens need to be watered freely in full growth, less so at other times. Prune back hard in early spring to encourage branching. Caterpillars and snails can be a problem.
