Garryaceae

W/C = Wild Collected
Garrya buxifolia Gray

  • Common Name: dwarf silktassel
  • Family: Garryaceae Lindley

  • Country of Origin: northern California
  • Habitat:

  • Culture: Soil and topography: Fremont silktassel grows in well-drained, slightly acidic, typic Xerochrept soil with 50 to 60 percent coarse fragment. Soil nutrient levels are low, and moisture is low from mid-spring to mid-fall.

These shrubs transplant badly so root disturbance should be minimized. They should never be cut back in summer, the best time for pruning being immediately after flowering and before new growth begins to allow a full season to make and mature thier wood. When trained as a shrub, keep the middle well-thinned to allow good air circulation.
