  • Habitat:

  • Description: This species from the Himalayas grows to 6 ft (1.8 m) tall with long, bright green leaves clasping the tall stems. This is the most widely cultivated species; it prefers a warm, frost-free climate although it will grow outside in temperate areas that have light, infrequent frosts. The fragrant red and creamy yellow flowers, held in dense spikes, appear towards the end of summer. This species is considered a weed in some regions such as in the north of New Zealand.
  • Culture: Hedychiums prefer humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in a part-shaded position.
